Senja Pollak gave an invited talk “Detecting offensive speech and analysing migration-related discourse” in the scope of the 1st International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence applied to Extremist Narrative Analysis in the Online Discourse that held place on March 26, 2024 and was organised by the ARENAS project. She presented selected natural language processing methods for detecting offensive comments, with a focus on cross-lingual methods, active learning and interpretability of results. Next, she covered a range of computational social science methods for analysing migration-related discourse on Twitter, parliamentary data and news media, including the methods for analysing the differences in discourse of left- and right-wing politicians and in media coverage of Syrian and Ukrainian migration periods. Special focus was put on analysing dehumanisation perspective.
