Short CV

Petra Kralj Novak is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Knowledge Technologies, Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia. She completed her PhD in 2009 in the area of data mining at the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School, Ljubljana, Slovenia. During her Ph.D. studies, she was a research assistant at the Department of Knowledge Technologies, Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia. In addition, she was a teaching assistant at the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School, Ljubljana, Slovenia, and at the University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia. She has also actively collaborated in several national and European research projects. From 2006 to 2009, she was the secretary and treasurer of SLAIS - Slovenian Artificial Intelligence Society.

Her research belongs to the wide area of knowledge discovery from databases. Her thesis focused on rule induction from class labelled data, where the induced rules are intended for human interpretation. The main findings of the thesis are published in Journal of Machine Learning Research and in the Encyclopaedia of Machine Learning. Besides her research in knowledge discovery from databases, she also ventured into optimization by designing and implementing a system for optimization of laboratory level traceability of genetically modified organisms. Currently, as a postdoctoral researcher, she analyses social and mainstream media focusing on the mediated sentiment.
