ESQI is a qualitative multi-attribute model that calculates an index of soil quality relative to a selected standard soil condition. Soil quality is a largely subjective state related to the soil being "fit for purpose". We have taken this to be a relative degree of excelency (dependent on soil type and land-use context), so ESQI computes soil quality relative to a standard soil condition, which is denoted by "medium" values of attributes. For further reference see ECOGEN Publications.

This model was developed as part of the ECOGEN project by Marko Bohanec, Jérôme Cortet, Bryan Griffiths, Martin Žnidaršič, Marko Debeljak, Sandra Caul, Jacqueline Thompson, and Paul H. Krogh.
